a true story by Shannon

((Hi friends! Jessi here. This week my fam & I are finishing up a big road trip and so I've asked some of my precious friends to share with you. I've told them they can talk about ANYTHING - but I'm specifically praying through the idea of blogging a true story, so here is a true story from them. Enjoy. ))

Hello, and happy Monday. My name is Shannon from The Scribble Pad where I blog about life as a wife, mother, and daughter of Christ. Today I hope we can continue the dialogue about blogging being a genuine story. And along those lines, a struggle I have been facing recently.

The confidence check.

I began blogging in 2008 shortly after my husband and I moved to a new city. Like many first time bloggers I was unaware of the community that existed and was beyond clueless about the superblogs. Now a couple years later, most of my family reads my blog on a daily basis to see pictures of my son Behr.

But recently, I have had to give myself a confidence check.

Where does my confidence come from? blog followers, comments, site stats, page views, or "blates" (blogger dates)? Most of these terms were completely foreign to me when I started but sometimes they make my head spin.

I have been reminded recently, again and again, that my confidence will only come from God.

My dear friend, and fellow blogger, Julie sent me these words last week:
Keep writing for you and for your family and to share your heart and talents with whoever (and there are lots) is desiring to read. God is good:) lean on Him and like Jessi wrote the other day "write until He says stop"-- HIM! :) He's the one, girl, who has given you all that is uniquely you.

Love you friend:) chin UP! xo

And then at church, our New Testament reading was 1 John 2.28-3.3, but the first few words rang in my head.
"And now, little children abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence..."
After church, my husband and I recounted two completely different sermons, despite sitting right next to each other.

My blog is a record of the journey of my family. It is my hope and prayer that my story and experiences may help or inspire others. But I want to "write until He says stop." Not for anyone else. Because when I start to focus on comments or stats, the quality of my blog goes down and I begin to filter myself. Focusing on growing my blog decreases its quality and lessons the joy. When I put my confidence in Christ, I write from my heart. I am free to find joy in the journey of my family without concern for traffic or comments.  And when I write from my heart, I often receive the best, and most sincere, feedback. It is when true blogger relationships begin to form.

So how about you? Are you able to write freely from your heart? Or do you struggle to remember where your confidence comes from?
