I'm blogging through the idea of wild and free for all of October, joining up with The Nester for her 31 days. Today I thought I'd spend a little time identifying what isn't wild.
Wild: living in a state of nature; not tamed or domesticated.
When I wake up in the morning and feel defined by my belongings, I do not feel wild.
When my words and actions feel measured by how they'll be perceived, I do not feel wild.
I am not living wild when I walk through my day looking to be nurtured by the people around me rather than seeking the source of my nature.
Not-wild is when anything other than the love of Christ controls me.
What isn't wild is when Sarah let Abraham lie and call her his sister because he was scared of how he'd be portrayed because of her. What isn't wild is when Sapphira, with her husband in Acts 5, let money become more than a tool for God's Kingdom. It wasn't wild when Eve traded in paradise for shackles of sin.
If being in the wild is living in a state of nature, not tamed or domesticated, then being un-wild is going throughout my day to day life convinced that this life and this earth and these trappings are my true place and purpose, rather than seeing them as vessels to proclaim the God who brought me out of darkness and into marvelous light.
To me, wild is native.
Living in the land of my first Father.
Walking hand in hand with my coheir, Christ.
Speaking the language of the Spirit, my helper.
What isn't wild is what is expected of me.
By my flesh and my culture, neither of which are my home.
And I'd like to begin throwing that off.
Are you with me?
