cravings & such

This being my third pregnancy, you think I'd be getting used to how it works. I have to say, this time around, it's such an unexpected blessing to have most of my friends here pregnant with me! Kelly understood when I needed to puke mid-sentence, Kalle & I can rejoice over finding a food that makes us feel good, and even though Lauren isn't pregnant, she knows all about the subject so she can laugh with me. It's a nice little gift.

So tonight I'm just overwhelmed with my crazy cravings - I really would think that this would feel normal by now. But it's still weird to me. I have a handful of foods that I can eat and I want them all the time. All the time. Here's my crazy list:
  • Red meat of any kind. Preferably pretty stinking rare. Tonight I got a craving for steak that was so intense, I went to Fred Meyer to buy some just for myself. I'm not going to describe it because it will sick you out. I will tell you that as strongly as I knew I needed steak, I knew I needed to eat it with sour cream & hot sauce.
  • That brings me to sour cream. I like that on everything. Veggies, chips, or by the spoonful. I started giving it to Elias with all his meals & then realized he wasn't as weird as me.
  • I need orange juice like an addict needs drugs. And I only like to drink it in wine glasses. If I've already had a big glass and want to watch my sugar, I just take a shot of it. Sad.
  • I was on a hilarious baked-potato kick and ate one a day, with shredded pepper-jack cheese, salsa, & of course - sour cream. Now I've made myself sick of them and I've traded in my baked-potatoes for chips, nachos style.
  • For breakfast I eat an egg on toast with pepper-jack, hot sauce, and mustard. I've eaten this for like three weeks in row solid and am now sick of it, so I'm on to peanut butter toast.
  • I'm back to my pregnancy ice obsession. It kicks in around now and doesn't go away till I'm in the hospital and the baby is out. It annoys the poop out of my husband & is probably killing my teeth. I just don't care.
  • So that's me - anything that is bloody, has hot sauce, pepper-jack, ice, sour cream, or mustard involved in it: BRING IT ON.

What are your cravings? Pregnant or normal - I want to hear them all. Make me feel better.

i JUST told shawn i wanted steak and eggs! If we're craving the same things, does this mean we're having the same sex babies?? my only problem is the things i like once day i hate the next. i usually just take your advice... por ejemplo the baked potato

She does not kid...I think the other day I looked over and she was topping off her cereal with sour cream and pepper jack...

Luckily, Elias will dip anything...in anything. I think you could put dog poop on his plate and he would happily dip away.

Oh yeah...speaking of dipping...a cool parenting tip for all...

You want your kid to smell good all day?? Give him maple syrup in the morning with something...anything. He will smell great all day. PROMISE. He will not have to shower for weeks.

I have found that having pregnant friends comes in quite handy. While I am not pregnant, one of my best friends in Winston is. She craves salt and I hate pickles. Makes trips to chick fil a very low maintenance.

This morning I really wanted french toast. So I had it. It was awesome. But I do have to be careful. My pregnant friend and I have a challenge going. For every pound she gains, I will lose one. So far so good -- but the second trimester start next week and "the books" say she'll start gaining a pound a week.

No more french toast.

Mmmmm. now you have me hungry! Let's not even talk about the unending hunger!
Cravings? Definitely hot wings, been that way with all my pregnancies. And pickles this time, but they're homemade. Went through a week of french onion dip and potato chips. And I agree with you on the baked potatoes and lots of sour cream!

Just reading your blog entry gave me heartburn. I cannot even imagine eating some of those things right now because of the "HB" (that is what my husband and I call it when it looms its ugly head every night as I try to go to sleep...). I cannot even eat any food made with black pepper right now... Pepper jack cheese with hot sauce?!?!?!? I am jealous.

So I have the worst "normal" cravings ever. Austin has them to so we blame them on our genetics. There is a very long list of things that I crave currently I would LOVE some extra cheese pizza.

Gray says that when I do finally get pregnant one day that he is hiring someone to "handle" the cravings. oh he thinks he is so funny.

I am with you on the Oramge juice! All the time and I terrified I am going to puke it up and not want it anymore. this is sad to tell but I also crave the traditional pickles.

I crave with a passion peanut butter and chocolate. I love peanut butter in a big spoon dotted by semi-sweet chocolate chips. DE-LISH! And salsa... love some salsa and hot stuff. I would add jalepenos & cheese to lots of things. and lastly Diet Coke. ahh, the diet coke. Love u jess! So excited. :)

ooh... and white cheddar popcorn. the kind in the black bag!
i've heard it said that if you're craving orange juice it's a boy... we'll see if that one is right or not...
